I first heard of the Blackbird Café on the The Heavy Table site's Friday Five. They featured a mouth-watering picture of the Oxtail with Red Flannel Hash and Basted Eggs from their weekend brunch menu and of course I have not been able to get there on a weekend to check it out myself. I've tried cooking Oxtail at home and I really just don't have the patience. But I've heard if it's done just right, it's quite wonderful. Don't worry I'll get there. To brunch, where someone else is cooking the oxtail, that is.
I did get there on a weekday for a business lunch so I don't remember what all the names of the food are. Hard to take pictures with co-workers and write notes without seeming like an over-achieving Instagrammer posting pictures of everything I eat in front of people I only know so well. The top picture is of the celery root? soup. Doesn't that look cute? Too bad for me it wasn't mine and since I was coming off of my own bout with strep throat I couldn't ask for a taste. My friend said it was the bomb.com (well not exactly but she said it was really good and she wouldn't lie) as well was the egg plate you see in the third picture. I had the Banh Mi and I brought some back to work in a doggie bag, but it was gone by 2 o'clock. I recommend going there BUT I would go on a day when you have extra time to check out the full service butcher shop Finer Meats which is kitty-corner from the restaurant. The reviews say that good butcher shops are a dying breed and hard to find, but this place has amazing service and is worth it.
